How to Stay Healthy Between Thanksgiving & Christmas

It’s official, the holidays are here! Every year, during this season, millions of people around the globe get to hang out with their loved ones and share in laughter and warmth. They also get to eat a bunch of unhealthy food and then feel guilty about it. I’m speaking from experience here. There was a time when I was militant about my health and never cheated on my diet, not even on Thanksgiving or Christmas day. Then, I realized that my unwavering conviction to perpetually eat a certain way was preventing me from connecting with my friends and extended family. As a result, I often felt alienated, lonely, and depressed around the holidays.

Over the years that followed, I swung in the opposite direction and indulged in festive treats a bit too much. Having too many cheat days presented different challenges. At the same time that relaxed dietary choices helped me feel more included in the group, such decisions also made me look chubbier in the mirror. This too was a problem. Eventually, I concluded that it’s good to practice moderation. Balance is the key to healthy holidays!

In 2016, 2017, and 2018, Balanced Sergei (BS), allowed himself to cheat on Thanksgiving and Christmas day, as well as, sneak a cookie here and there as needed. Then, in the interim between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, BS stuck to healthy practices (e.g. wholesome diet, daily exercise, and healthy sleep cycles).  I’m pleased to report that this type of compromising covers all the bases and produces awesome results. In other words, occasionally treating myself to less-than-ideal food choices is fun, especially when in the company of friends. But then, once the cheat day is over, I switch back over to my normal routine, which enables me to maintain a healthy self-esteem.  Two weeks from now, on Thanksgiving 2019, I plan to repeat my simple cheat strategy.

Use Green Smoothies to Get Back on Track

One of the easiest ways I’ve found to hop back on the healthy bandwagon during the holiday season is to immediately start a green smoothie challenge after Thanksgiving. This enables your body to recuperate from any questionable food and drink choices that were made during the great feast and prepares your body for round two at Christmas. It’s kind of like boxing. In a boxing ring, fighters have to take short rests in between rounds so they can catch their breath and recover. That’s exactly what a green smoothie challenge will do for you.

In 2019, there are exactly 27 days between Turkey day and X-mas. This means you can almost complete an entire, month-long green smoothie cleanse and significantly reboot your system before diving into another holiday cheat fest (round two).

Green Smoothie Challenge on YouTube

A few years ago, I published a comprehensive green smoothie challenge guide on YouTube to make it easily accessible for all. To benefit from the challenge all you have to do is watch the video, make the smoothies, and drink them daily.

What is the 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge?

The main purpose of a 30-day green smoothie challenge is to motivate you to take charge of your health in a manageable fashion. I believe that anyone who completes this challenge will feel happier and healthier after a month of regular smoothie consumption. The challenge is simple, and straightforward, and requires minimal effort. All you have to do is drink one quart (or liter if you’re outside the United States) of freshly made green smoothie every day for one month in addition to your pre-existing diet. Yes, you read that correctly. You don’t need to stop eating your typical diet. Instead, just add a jar of smoothie to it. It’s as easy as that! You don’t even need to plan a far-off start date. You can begin anytime you please.

What Results Can You Expect from This Program?

Amazing things happen to people who add green smoothies into their daily routines. The premise of the entire challenge is based on the idea that fresh, organic, whole food provides an overwhelmingly positive effect on the human body. Thus, by drinking smoothies, which are made from the “good stuff,” (i.e., vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants) you’re adding exponentially more nutrients into your diet and benefiting from it accordingly. If you follow the guidelines of my challenge and drink home-made smoothies for 30 consecutive days, I am confident you will achieve your own fantastic hard-to-believe-it’s-true results. Check out this testimony from my friend who did the challenge a few years back.

Satellite Green Smoothie Challenge eBook

Should you need more guidance, I’ve put together a satellite eBook, which conveniently lays out every aspect of the challenge. I recommend saving the eBook to your favorite device so that it’s always close when you need it. For example, if you save it to your smart phone, you’ll be able to access the ingredients shopping lists and smoothie recipes at the grocery store next time you go food shopping.

Motion is Lotion

Last but not least, don’t forget to exercise this holiday season. Regular movement, especially the kind that makes you sweat, makes everything feel better. If you need some fitness motivation during the holidays, watch my documentary called “I Want Abs.” It’s available on YouTube too!
