In late winter/early spring, White Pass ski area, which is located just outside of Packwood, Washington, hosts a family-friendly snow festival called “Winter Carnival.” The weekend-long celebration features a gigantic 6,000-square-foot, three story tall snow castle, sledding and tubing, skiing and snowboarding, mid-evil games, ice sculptures, delicious food and drinks, live music, a torch parade, and a massive fireworks display. The event is not to be missed!
Last March, I had the pleasure of working my butt off on the castle build with dozens of welcoming ski area employees and volunteers. As is often the case, my cameras were rolling and I was able to capture a healthy dose of the event and snow castle construction on video. As winter 2019/2020 quickly approaches, and my eagerness to play in the snow grows, it seems like a fitting time to share the Winter Carnival story here on my blog.
