Common Name: Wild Strawberry

Latin Name: Fragaria viriniana

Description: Wild strawberries grow close to the ground in quaint patches. Each plant has one stem with three green leaves. Leaves are serrated with well-defined straight veins. Wild strawberry plants grow 2 to 8 inches in height. Flowers are white and have five wide petals.

Habitat: Strawberries love  shade and can be found on mountain slopes and in forest settings. They thrive throughout North America.

Food: The red berries are delicious and can be eaten in a plethora of different ways. Strawberry greens are favorable when young. They can be used in salads or added to smoothies.

Nutrition: Rich in vitamins A, C, K as well as minerals sulfur, calcium, potassium, and iron. Strawberries have been used to treat stomach upsets, diarrhea, urinary tract infections, and intestinal disorders. They have also proved to be beneficial in cosmetics for tightening the skin and closing pores.

1 pint of freshly picked strawberries

1 bunch of fresh mint

1 thumb sized piece of ginger (diced)

2 Tablespoons of honey

1 lime (cut in half)

Transfer all ingredients into gallon jar made from glass. Cover all ingredients with water. Cover jar with lid. Place jar in sunny spot, preferable outside. Let water absorb the fragrance for 8-12 hours. Serve chilled or with ice.
