After a full year of hard work, I am proud to announce that my first full-length documentary “Powered By Green Smoothies” is finished! For those that may have missed the news, here’s the recap:

Last year, I rounded up 10 athletic friends (five ultra-runners and five CrossFitters), put them on a green smoothie challenge for six weeks, and documented everything with my camera. To ensure that my experiment was serious, I put my athletes through a series of blood tests, demanding endurance tests, and consulted with numerous medical professionals throughout entire process. The results of this study were fascinating! I now have solid proof that fresh, organic, whole-food-based green smoothies are extremely beneficial for athletes and athletic people.

Even though all of my athletes were healthy and fit to begin with, they managed to further improve their health and endurance simply by drinking green smoothies. Perhaps the most distinguished change we (my team and I) discovered in the before and after blood work of my athletes was a significant reduction in markers of inflammation. All but one of my athletes logged lower rates of inflammation after drinking green smoothies. Less inflammation enabled runners and CrossFitters alike to feel lighter on their feet, heal their pre-existing, workout-related injuries, work out harder, and improve their post-exercise recovery times.

I can confidently conclude that green smoothies support the health and performance of athletes in a way that it is scientifically measurable and physically noticeable. The testimonies of the athletes who took part in this experiment are so surprising and inspiring they will make everyone who watches this film reach for their green smoothie and strap on their running shoes. Sergei's Green Smoothies

My film is going GREAT! All my athletes have taken their baseline tests and have now started their 6-week green smoothie regime. I personally make them smoothies 3 times a week ( Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and so far the feedback is very positive. If you’d like to follow along and drink smoothies with us, I’ll be posting the recipes on our FaceBook page ( ). Like the page to get updates.

My mother, sister, and I are currently in Sweden conducting a green smoothie retreat. We have found THE MOST A-M-A-Z-I-N-G place to soak up the sun, detox, and relax in nature. If you missed out this year, don’t worry, we’ll be coming back again in 2014.

I am thrilled to announce that a few ago days my kickstarter project (Powered by Green Smoothies) was successfully funded! This means my experiment WILL happen, and the movie WILL be made. I would like to officially thank all of my backers (you know who you are) for supporting me as well as the entire healthy food movement. Our efforts together are making a powerful difference in this world! Stay tuned for regular updates about my upcoming film.

You asked, I did. Here for your viewing pleasure is a brief introduction to the athletes who will be partaking in my experiment (! I worked very hard to select these individuals and think that on top of their athleticism, they have SO MUCH MORE to contribute to this project. Won’t you please help me welcome to the stage (not an actual stage) Alex, Joanne, Laura, Kymmi, Jace, Jamie, Jade, and Michael!

Athletes and Smoothies

If you run, hike, swim, snowboard, cycle, attend crossfit, or actively engage in any other sports, then you’re probably aware that your body requires extra nutritional supplementation in order to function properly. Simply put, athletes need more nutrients than less-active people. They demand more from their bodies and thus must compensate with the right nutrients to keep up performance and recovery. Unfortunately, today’s athletes have been duped into believing that in order to maintain proper health, they must consume a wide range of animal products, supplements, and power gels. I think this is one of the biggest misconceptions in the field of sports and fitness. In this post, I am not interested in arguing whether athletes should be vegans or not. I simply want to challenge the traditional approach and illustrate that the nutritional needs of an athlete can be met through natural means. I believe all athletes can benefit by consuming more fresh, organic greens and fruits in a blended concoction commonly referred to as a “green smoothie.”
